“Michigan girls are home grown goodness.” -Katelyn Stanis

I heard Katelyn share about her business on a podcast for wedding professionals and was instantly inspired by this intentional, goal oriented, bride-loving entrepreneur. So, I then did what any classy wedding planner would do…I hunted her down on Instagram and DMed her. Weeks later, during a long video chat, I got to know this incredible woman, her business, and her passions.

One thing you have to know about Katelyn is that she is the real deal. She is devoted to her business and her clients in a tenacious and inspiring kind of way. She has the biggest goals and the biggest heart, and she loves her job. A naturally creative and strategic person, she graduated with a journalism degree…and a healthy infatuation with the wedding industry.

Her business, Wedding Words, started a year and a half ago, in the most personal of places. After the death of her grandfather, her father was struggling to find the right words for his eulogy. Katelyn sat down with him, talked him through it, and helped him – line by line – write the sentiments he was so trying to convey. Through that experience, she realized the value of words during special moments, and how difficult they can be to get on paper. An idea had formed.

Katelyn found a beautiful niche in the wedding world – helping couples write their promises to each other on the first day of their life together. That’s a big deal, and she’s a freakin boss at it. Although “Michigan grown,” she now lives in NYC and takes on clients from all over the world. Dozens of brides, podcast, and guests blogs later, Katelyn is doing what she loves for couples on their wedding day. It doesn’t get much better than that.

The bottom line about this girl: she loves hearing people’s stories. Like, really. When we chatted she wanted to know everything about Grand Occasions’ story and our dreams and aspirations. In her own words, “I get down to business with people and the heart of who they are.” She takes the time to get to know her couples, and what makes their relationship so special. Now that’s the kind of person you want helping you eloquently promise your love to your husband on your wedding day, am I right? She finds your story, its common themes, and gives it life.
